How a kid from Georgia became the best quarterback in Slippery Rock history

Not a full-time starter until his senior year of high school. A career-altering shoulder injury in his sophomore year. A transfer from Valdosta State. Starting his Slippery Rock career as a third-stringer. The best quarterback in school history.


Roland Rivers III's journey to becoming the most prolific quarterback in Slippery Rock history has been anything but conventional.


Through 24 games at Slippery Rock, Rivers has broken nearly every quarterback record at the school. He owns the record for single season and career passing touchdowns, passing yards in a single season, total yards in a single season and completions in a single season.


As the PSAC Athlete of the Year in 2019 and one of the 36 finalists for the Harlon Hill Award, Rivers has overcome adversity to become one of the best players in Division II football and a legitimate NFL Draft prospect.


I plan to interview SRU football coach Shawn Lutz and a couple of Rivers' teammates, Charles Snorweah and Jermaine Wynn, Jr. in order to tell an even better story about Rivers' journey to the top.
